The CBD Basics

What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?

Hemp and marijuana are related to each other. Both come from the cannabis plant, and the difference between the two is more of a legal definition. Hemp refers to cannabis plants that contain 0.3% or less, by weight, THC. Our CBD is hemp-derived.

THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the psychoactive component that gives marijuana users a high. Cannabis plants that contain mire than 0.3% of THC (usually much higher) are considered marijuana.

Our CBD is broad-spectrum, which means it does not contain THC.

What is CBD?

CBD is short for cannabidiol. It is one of many cannabinoids produced by the cannabis plant, but it does not have psychoactive properties. CBD is believed to provide beneficial effects* to users.

*Specific claims about the beneficial effects of CBD are regulated by the FDA. Scientific studies are ongoing. Recent news can be found in our blog

Does CBD oil contain THC?

By law, CBD oil and other CBD products must contain less than 0.3% THC. Refer to certificates of analysis for precise THC concentrations in your product.

Will I get high?

No, using CBD products will not give you a high. The level of THC is required by law to be below 0.3% and is often much lower. CBD and other cannabinoids present in the hemp extract do not have a psychoactive effect like THC.

Will CBD affect my driving?

CBD will not impair your ability to drive. CBD is not a psychoactive cannabinoid and will not prevent you from performing normal activities.

Will I pass a drug test?

While THC concentrations in CBD products are very low, continuous use of CBD may cause a build-up of THC in your body. If you are worried about passing a drug test, Maiz Extracts recommends using broad spectrum or isolate CBD products.

What is the difference between full spectrum, broad spectrum, and isolate?

Full spectrum products contain CBD and all other cannabinoids, including THC, extracted from the hemp plant.

Broad spectrum products contain CBD and all other cannabinoids extracted from the hemp plant, but no THC. A separation process is used to remove all THC from broad spectrum products.

CBD isolate is highly purified CBD and does not contain any other cannabinoids or THC. Read more
